In a surprise move Dr Shabir Choudhry has resigned from the basic membership of Kashmir National Party; and informed Party Chairman of his decision on phone.
Dr Shabir Choudhry started his struggle for united and independent Jammu and Kashmir in 1973; and helped to from Kashmir Youth Movement. Later on he helped to form Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in 1977; and served as its Publicity Chief, Secretary General and President.
After serious differences with the JKLF, Dr Shabir Choudhry and many other colleagues formed a new party called – Kashmir National Party.
He was a member of the Supreme Council of KNP and Chairman of its Diplomatic Committee. He has resigned from all positions of the party and will have no association with the KNP or its decisions. However, he has expressed his determination to continue his struggle against forces of occupation, terrorism, extremism and religious intolerance. He hopes to work with all like-minded people to promote the cause of united and independent Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Shabir Choudhry said, ‘One can fight against civilized enemy in discipline of political and democratic norms; but when your enemy is evil and represents forces of darkness, at times, one finds insufficient space to maneuver within a political party.’
Now that I have no party responsibilities I can do what I like. I can formulate policies and strategies that will help me to promote the cause of united and independent Jammu and Kashmir with liberal and secular society.
More than two weeks ago we formulated a think tank called South Asia Watch, and as its Chairman I will primarily focus my attention on research and writing. South Asia Watch will encourage research and publish books and that will help to bring people of South Asia closer to each other and oppose forces of extremism, terrorism and religious intolerance.
Dr Shabir Choudhry said, ‘Resignation from KNP does not mean my struggle against injustice, and oppression has ended; or I will surrender to ISI and their stooges.
My issue with ISI and Pakistan is not only related to Identity Card; they occupy my motherland. I want this occupation to end. I can’t go to my village without entering Pakistan. The system Pakistan has imposed on Pakistani occupied Kashmir requires identity card to operate a bank account. ID card is required to rent a hotel room, buy or sell land or house. In every walk of life people need this card. Police man can stop me anywhere and if I can’t produce a valid ID card I could be arrested. Still some fools ask why you need a Pakistani ID card. I don’t want a Pakistani ID card. I need a Kashmiri card and for that Pakistan must pack its bags go home.
