British Premier Starmer reminded of Kashmir pledge on Human Rights Day

LONDON – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday was reminded of his pledge towards Kashmir on international Human Rights Day.

Fahim Kayani, leader of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK and chair of All Party International Kashmir Coordination Committee, led a delegation to UK prime minister’s office at 10 Downing Street here with a petition urging British government to use its good offices towards ending occupation in Jammu and Kashmir.

British lawmakers Andrew Pakes MP, Andrew, Gareth Snell MP , Nadia Whittome , David Williams MP and Cllr Mohammad Amjid Wazir Deputy Leader of Stoke on Trent Council, Cllr Zanib Raja, Cllr Majid Hussain and Muhammad Saleem president Pakistan community centre Reading joined the delegation to the 10 Downing Street

Recalling Starmer’s letter to Ms. Ifath Nawaz of Muslim Council of Britain on 8 May 2020, the petition that it was time for the British government “to take practical steps” on the implementation of UN granted right of plebiscite to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir is occupied by India since 1947 through its more than one one million  soldiers and other paramilitary and police forces.

Urging Labour government to stand for people, justice, human rights and freedoms, the petition highlighted the Modi regime’s genocidal policy to eliminate Kashmiri from the territory.

It called on Prime Minister Starmer “to initiate a process with the Modi regime in New Delhi, emphasizing on diplomatic and political solution through talks with Pakistan and pro-freedom leadership in Kashmir towards realizing right to self-determination as guaranteed by the United Nations.”
