Birmingham: International Mother Language Day Celebration was held at the The Broadway Academy, Aston Perry Barr. Organised by Conservative Friends of Bangladesh Midlands. Guests of honour was Former Member of European Parliament Anthea McIntyre and Conservative Party Group Leader in Birmingham City Council Cllr Robert Alden. It was hosted by Mrs Thamanna Choudhury and Mr Jahid Chuodhury. The purpose of the event was to promote linguistic, cultural diversity and multilingualism all across the world. It was first announced by UNESCO on November 17, 1999. Since then it is being celebrated every year. The keynote speakers were Asma Choudhury, Masuma Choudhury Rumi and others. They payed a huge tribute to language martyr students of 1952 Bangladesh. Also present were Mohammed Azam, Abdul Jalil, Reema Begum, Ahmed Hussain, Jitu Mian, Shahid ur Rehman, M Sattar, Abdul Khalique, Zia Talukder, MD Abdul Wodud, Somir Ali, Kayes Mian, MD Mozamil Khan and others.
