High Commissioner commends wrestlers for promoting sports in Pakistan
As many as 25 wrestlers from 20 countries of the world including USA, UK, Germany, France and Belgium will visit Pakistan in August 2018. Several wrestling contests will be held in different cities of Pakistan to promote the sport as well as the image of Pakistan as a sport loving country. The trip is being organized by a wrestling company called ‘Ring of Pakistan’.
Some of the wrestlers, from the group of 25, visited the High Commission on 27 July 2018 and were hosted at a dinner reception. They shared the details of their upcoming trip to Pakistan.
Welcoming the wrestlers, High Commissioner Sahebzada Ahmed Khan commended their efforts and passion to promote one of the most popular sports, i.e. wrestling, in Pakistan. He expressed that with the advent of international wrestling to Pakistan, the traditional sport would be revitalized and provide a healthy activity for the youth of Pakistan. The High Commissioner also appreciated the initiative of the Ring of Pakistan to take to wrestlers to Pakistan.
The High Commissioner further said that the people of Pakistan look forward to welcoming the wrestling celebrities to their country. He also assured the organizers of all possible support for the event. The High Commissioner said he was supporting Team UK and if they win, he would receive them at the airport.
Talking to media on the occasion, the High Commissioner said after successful completion of general elections of 25 July, Pakistan is poised to become an even more vibrant and stronger democracy.
The wrestlers were accompanied by Imran Shah and Dr Ejaz Hussain of the Ring of Pakistan. Members of the community and media attended the reception.
