London: In a virtual meeting held in London on 1st November 2020 Kashmir Voice International (KVI) expressed serious concern regarding the new laws passed by Delhi government allowing Indian citizens unrestrictedly to purchase land in J & K state. This is in total violation of earlier domicile decisions and reveals the designs of depriving Kashmiris of their land and change the demographic position of the state. It is also intended to further weaken the already destroyed economy of Kashmir. It was felt that BJP government on the one hand claims Kashmiris to be its own people but its actions send a clear message that Delhi wants the land not the people of Kashmir.
Soon after accession India eyed for annexation of the state and started the process of erosion of its constitutional position. India has turned back on its promise of plebiscite and violated its commitment made in Simla Agreement for not changing the status of the state. It was felt that India, Pakistan and UN have failed to keep their promises made to Kashmiris.
In the meeting GUPKAR DECLEARTION was also discussed. KVI believes that main stream parties are seeking restoration of 4th August 2019 position which is not in any way acceptable to Kashmiris being only a weak skeleton of special status. Kashmir is a political issue and needs a permanent solution based on the wishes of Kashmiris. The parties who are part of this declaration should confess, accept and own the negative and damaging role they have played in the process of erosion of the constitutional position of the state and identify themselves with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
KVI also discussed the move of Pakistan government for the change of status of Gilgit Baltistan. It was said that Pakistan is bound by Simla Agreement not to alter the disputed position of any part of the state it holds. GB is part of erstwhile state of J & K. Any move to change its status will weaken the Pakistan’s own position on Kashmir. As for the people of state they do not accept and disapprove all that India has done to change the constitutional position of the state and what Pakistan intends to do with GB.
Based on proceedings the meeting KVI demands that:-
- Restrictions imposed on the people of Kashmir should be removed forthwith and political space with freedom of speech along with 4G internet be restored.
- Political detunes be released.
- Measures be taken for the revival of state economy and business.
- Means be explored to meet the aspirations of youth in particular by increasing the employment opportunities.
