Birmingham City Council’s senior Councillor, Zafar Iqbal MBE JP, has been selected by the Labour Party as its next Lord Mayor for 2025/26.
He will be officially elected as the Lord Mayor Elect of Europe’s largest local authority at Birmingham City Council’s next meeting on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Known for his dedication, competence, and professionalism, Councillor Zafar Iqbal has devoted his life to serving the community. Originally from Chakswari, Mirpur Azad Kashmir, he will become the fifth Kashmiri to hold the position of Lord Mayor at Birmingham City Council.
His term will commence in May with the historic Lord Mayor Making Ceremony, where he will be formally sworn in.
