PURE Awards 2025 celebrate achievements in overcoming barriers to employment at Symphony Hall

The PURE Project hosted its annual awards ceremony at the iconic Symphony Hall to celebrate the completion of its phase 3 and mark the achievements of participants, providers and partners. The awards highlighted the dedication of people living with complex barriers, celebrating their exceptional progress towards education, training, and employment.

PURE supports people living with complex barriers, including learning difficulties, mental health issues, visual impairments and being vulnerably housed. Since the launch of PURE’s phase three in Spring 2024, the scheme has supported more than a thousand people across Birmingham.

The award partner, AKG, presented Outstanding Achievement Awards to six PURE participants. Certificates of excellence were awarded by Medequip and Transport for West Midlands, acknowledging the dedication of participants. ReCognition Circular presented course certificates and laptops to participants who had repaired them as part of their training.

Individual and team awards were presented by Nuffield Health for PURE’s six delivery providers in recognition of the incredible work of the specialist partners. There was also a special congratulatory message from an Aston Villa legend, and the unveiling of stunning paintings by PURE participant, Paige Holloway, in celebration of the project.

Special gratitude goes to award partner AKG for making the day possible, as well as to Tesco for generously donating goodie bags. Symphony Hall provided a stunning backdrop for the occasion, and CEO Nick Reed presented a special gift to a PURE participant following his inspiring, impromptu piano performance.

Tabriz Hussain, Commissioning Manager at the PURE Project, commented: “The PURE Project empowers individuals facing significant challenges on their journey towards employment and personal development. Seeing the dedication and resilience of the participants is truly inspiring, and it reaffirms our commitment to fostering inclusive opportunities. The awards ceremony was a fantastic celebration of progress, and we are honoured to play a part in recognising the achievements of these incredible individuals.”

A heartfelt thank you is extended to PURE’s incredible delivery partners: Better Pathways, BID Service, Birmingham Rathbone, FareShare Midlands, Midland Mencap, and Trident Reach, who work tirelessly to support individuals facing complex barriers to employment and training.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and managed by Birmingham City Council, PURE is an employment support initiative for those over the age of 18, delivered in partnership with six specialist community organisations.
