London: The biggest South Asian film at the UK Box Office in the past four years, The Legend of Maula Jatt, will be released in an uncut full version in UK cinemas on 2nd December. Likely to be rated Cert 18, the uncut version will feature previously edited scenes and draw back fans of the film that has already garnered a cult following among audiences, many of whom have seen the film multiple times since opening. While the blockbuster is still going strong in UK cinemas in week 5 of release, the full uncut version will also be likely to draw in new audiences that have not seen the film the first time round.
The Legend Of Maula Jatt has been trending and dominating the Box Office in multiple international territories and initiated an unprecedented, cult following among fans along the way. Merchandise and memorabilia are on course to to become collectors’ items over time, while leading designers in Pakistan and overseas have launched clothing ranges inspired by the costumes and aesthetic of the film, with the infamous ‘lunghi’ being adapted and appropriated as part of this trend.
This powerful and epic hero origin narrative is a hard reboot of the 1979 cult hit Maula Jatt, starring Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Ali Azmat, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Humaima Malick and Faris Shafi.
The film has been directed by Bilal Lashari and executive produced by Ammara Hikmat and Asad Jamil Khan under the joint venture of Encyclomedia – they have undertaken the most ambitious film production risk, in terms of budget, to date in Pakistan. Lashari Films has co-produced. The screenplay is by Bilal Lashari and the dialogues have been penned by the iconic screenplay writer, Nasir Adeeb. The filmmakers partnered with Geo Films as their presenting partner. The film is locally distributed in Pakistan by Mandviwalla Entertainment and internationally by Moviegoers Entertainment.
The Legend of Maula Jatt Uncut Full Version will release in UK cinemas on 2nd December.
