Dr Iqtidar Cheema Urged US lawmakers to adopt an ethical Foreign Policy

London: Dr Iqtidar Cheema a member of United Nations global steering committee has urged the US law makers to adopt an ethical foreign policy. While speaking at the Congressional briefing at the US congress he urged that United States should pursue human rights objectives in her  bilateral  and  multilateral  foreign  policies. He said that United States, has constructed a positive self-image on defence of personal freedom, civil and political rights. But the notion of the United States as symbol of individual civil and political rights, has some declared concern of the international community and an international system of protection of human rights.  There has been a long debate in the US Congress whether human rights, can be integrated in foreign policymaking.  But the members of Congress should secure a place for human rights on the foreign policy agenda, first through a political base and gradually through a legal one, no matter how tense the considerations on commercial interests and human rights is.

He said regardless of the colour, ethnicity, religious affiliation or sexuality all humans should be entitled to the entire scope of these human rights because they are not members of this or that society, but of the community of humankind. He urged that US lawmakers should put human rights and religious freedom first to curb the transnational repression, hate crime, xenophobia and islamophobia through appropriate policy actions including delivering confidential or public demarches; modifying the content of cooperation programs, deferring signature or decisions needed to implement co-operation, reducing cultural, scientific and technical co-operation agreements, deferring a joint committee meeting, postponement of new projects, imposing trade embargoes, arms embargoes or suspension of military co-operation or any other forms of co-operation with the countries who violate human rights and religious freedom’s international norms.
