Birmingham: Continued low temperatures across Birmingham mean that much of the weekend’s snow and ice has yet to clear – and bin collections scheduled tomorrow (Tuesday, January 26) could be severely affected.
Anyone whose scheduled bin collection (recycling or household waste) is missed due to our crews not being able to attend as normal is asked to leave their bins out as every effort will be made to pick up missed collections during the rest of the week.
Cllr John O’Shea, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Parks at Birmingham City Council, said: “As I have previously said on many occasions, our crews do an amazing job in all sorts of challenging conditions, but snow and ice make it particularly tricky to deliver a service that depends on the safe operation of heavy vehicles.
“Temperatures have barely got above freezing for a number of days, so we will do what we can to maintain collections and to catch up during the week ahead. We would ask that anyone due a collection please be patient – and we offer our apologies for circumstances that are clearly beyond our control.”
Our five Household Recycling Centres are expected to be open, but residents should only book a visit and travel if it is safe to do so.
