Hypocrisy in the Halls of UK’s Power Corridors

London: In a joint letter to the British Prime Minister and his cabinet, Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK and World Kashmir Freedom Movement expressed their appreciation for the Governments statement against the Myanmar Junta’s murder of children yesterday, calling it a “new low” for the regime.

They also welcomed Boris Johnsons the meeting with those who “have been shining a light on the gross human rights violations being perpetrated against Uyghur Muslims”

However, TeK President Raja Fahim Kayani and WKFM President Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur questioned why the British government have not shown the same courage in condemning India’s atrocities in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir and why they have not met with Kashmiri diaspora to discuss the mass gross human rights violations on the people of Illegally Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“The double standards you and your government have shown are unacceptable. If you have the courage to call out the Myanmar military and be appraised of the conditions of the Uyghurs, then you must do the same when it comes to India’s war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, genocide, demographic change and settler colonialism in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the longest outstanding issue on the UN agenda.

With more than 1 million citizens in the UK from the disputed region Jammu and Kashmir, it is outrageous that you are prepared to welcome Narendra Modi to the G7, a mass murderer also referred to the Butcher of Gujrat who at one point was banned from entering the UK. You risk alienating a key demographic and identifying yourself as a hypocrite, who condemns Myanmar’s actions, but not India’s; who hears the plight of Uyghurs, but not Kashmiris”.

They concluded the letter by urging the Prime Minister to uphold the British commitment to human rights globally by not turning a blind eye to the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir and their legal right to self-determination as protected by the United Nations resolutions.
