The first clip of cricketer Wasim Akram in his debut film, money back guarantee

London: News of legendary Pakistani cricketer and former captain Wasim Akram’s film debut in Money Back Guarantee – a much-awaited Pakistani movie directed by renowned television host, film/video producer and actor Faisal Qureshi, who also stars in his directorial debut – has been creating a palpable buzz in entertainment circles since the film’s trailer and poster launch in February 2023.

Now the first trailer clip of ‘the Sultan of Swing’ in cinematic conversation with Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan – who heads a multi-star cast including Javed Sheikh; Hina Dilpazir, Ali Safina; Shayan Khan; Mikaal Zulfiqar; Gohar Rasheed; Hajra Yamin; Ayesha Omar; Faysal Quraishi and John Rambo among others – has been uploaded on a leading entertainment publication Dawn Images’ Instagram page and has quickly gone viral.

The plot of MBG reportedly revolves around a bank robbery. Akram plays the President of the bank amid a hilarious and frenzied heist, punctuated by puns, double entendre and innuendos.

In the uploaded clip Wasim’s performance comes off as natural and while in dialogue with Fawad Khan talks about the mindset of the populace during elections; fake sweetness; public distrust and the safeguarding of money taking precedence over human lives.

Wasim’s comfort level may have been accentuated by the fact that in the past he and director Faisal Qureshi have worked together in several commercials. The director was also lucky enough to convince Wasim’s wife, activist and philanthropist Shaniera Akram to act in MBG, in which she also makes her film acting debut.

Wasim is considered to be an exponent of swing bowling at an international level and one of the best left-arm fast bowlers ever to play the game. His stellar career record speaks volumes of his natural talent. He has 414 and 502 Test and One Day International (ODI) wickets, respectively to his credit. His 18 wickets not only won him “Player of the Tournament” award but was also key to Pakistan’s triumph during the 1992 World Cup in Australia.
