Midland Mencap celebrates participant achievements at Learning Disability Week event

Midland Mencap celebrated Learning Disability Week and welcomed Birmingham’s Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress to a PURE graduation event at The Library of Birmingham.

The event included a Birmingham Adult Education Service (BAES) Graduation ceremony for PURE Project participants with learning disabilities, presented by the Lord Mayor. The event was a collaborative effort with Birmingham Rathbone.

Efforts of all those involved in the PURE project were celebrated. The PURE project, managed by Birmingham City Council, supports people over the age of 25 facing complex barriers. This includes people who are homeless and vulnerably housed, women fleeing domestic abuse, people with physical and sensory disabilities, learning disabilities and difficulties, and mental health difficulties.

Midland Mencap was also joined by Nuffield Health, who brought the attendees together for physical activities like stretches and workouts. Parkride (link here) also provided free taster sessions with Mencap’s accessible bikes.
