Ban on encampments extended to fifth city park
Birmingham City Council has added a fifth site to an injunction banning encampments from moving onto several city parks until July 2019.
Swanshurst Park, in Kings Heath, has been added to a High Court injunction which bans households from setting up or joining encampments on named sites with immediate effect today (27 September 2017).
It is now included in an injunction first issued on 17 July 2017, which also covers Selly Oak Park, Selly Park Recreational Ground and Hazelwell Park, in Stirchley. A second injunction, made on the same date, also bans encampments on Perry Park and Alexander Stadium.
Anyone who breaches the orders covering these parks and recreation grounds may be arrested, will be guilty of contempt of court and may be fined, have their assets seized or face imprisonment.
The council’s Environmental Health department applied for the injunctions after a series of traveller incursions in Perry Park and Selly Oak, during which residents reported incidents of anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.
