Aghosh UK Launches “Rebuild Gaza” Campaign to Restore Lives and Infrastructure

Birmingham, UK – Aghosh UK held a press briefing in Birmingham to launch the “Rebuild Gaza” campaign, aimed at addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Dr. Adeel Riaz, Chairman of Aghosh UK, was joined by renowned author and journalist Lauren Booth, who highlighted the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict.

Lauren Booth shared harrowing statistics, stating that the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 62,000 Palestinians since the conflict began in October 2023. According to the United Nations, nearly 70% of those killed are women and children, with children alone accounting for 44% of fatalities. She also emphasized the large-scale destruction of infrastructure, with over 170,000 buildings, including homes, schools, and hospitals, damaged or destroyed.

Dr. Adeel Riaz underscored the scale of the crisis, saying:

“The statistics presented by Lauren Booth highlight the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza—marked by significant civilian casualties, mass displacement, and the destruction of essential infrastructure.”

Aghosh UK’s “Rebuild Gaza” Initiative

Dr. Adeel Riaz outlined Aghosh UK’s commitment to playing an active role in the rebuilding efforts. The “Rebuild Gaza” campaign focuses on two key objectives:
1.Rebuilding critical infrastructure – including hospitals, schools, shelter villages, and other essential facilities.
2.Investing in human capacity – by providing education for medical students and support for orphans.

Dr. Riaz further announced that several projects will be delivered within the next two to three months, with a strong focus on healthcare, education, and food security.

Key Projects Under the “Rebuild Gaza” Campaign

1. Martyrs Clinic Rehabilitation Project – Khan Younis

In partnership with Medics Worldwide, Aghosh UK has committed to rebuilding Al-Bandar Clinic, a once-thriving healthcare facility that served thousands of patients daily. Today, the clinic lies in ruins, with shattered walls and destroyed medical infrastructure.

Despite the devastation, the clinic continues to operate under extreme conditions, treating 1,000 patients daily (30,000 per month). With full restoration, it could become a lifeline for over 250,000 people in Khan Younis.

Dr. Riaz stated:
“Aghosh UK has taken responsibility for rebuilding Al-Bandar Clinic, and with your support, we can restore this vital healthcare facility.”

2. Gaza Educate Medics (GEM) – Sponsoring 2,100 Medical Students

Aghosh UK, in collaboration with Alkhidmat Foundation, PalMed, and the GEM Programme, is sponsoring 2,100 medical students in Gaza to complete their training. This initiative aims to rebuild Gaza’s healthcare system by ensuring that aspiring doctors receive:
•Clinical training
•Online education through a specialized platform
•Financial and personal support

Dr. Riaz emphasized:
“Investing in the future doctors of Gaza is crucial to rebuilding the healthcare system.”

3. Iftar Meal Distribution Project

With Gaza facing an unprecedented food crisis, Aghosh UK has launched an Iftar Meal Distribution Project to provide essential meals during Ramadan. This initiative will operate across southern, northern, and central Gaza, using locally sourced ingredients to ensure timely distribution and support the local economy.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), Gaza’s entire population of 2.23 million is experiencing severe food insecurity, with 1.11 million expected to reach catastrophic levels (IPC Phase 5) by mid-2025.

4. Shelter Village for 400 Displaced Families

Aghosh UK is constructing a shelter village to provide housing for 400 displaced families. Additionally, the organization has collected data on 5,000 orphans to provide targeted humanitarian aid.
