The greatest Panjabi film ever made – remastered & back in cinemas 27 May 2022

London: Chann Pardesi won India’s National Film Award for Best Panjabi Film in 1980 and went on to become a box office phenomenon upon its general release in 1981.  Today, it is widely regarded as the greatest Panjabi film ever made.  Chann Pardesi debuted many legends of Bollywood, including Amrish Puri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sushma Seth, Om Puri, and Raj Babbar, who had never even faced a camera before Chann Pardesi.

Blue Horse Films International restored Chann Pardesi from its original 35mm master negative, and then remastered it in high-definition digital and 5.1 surround sound.  CHANN PARDESI: REMASTERED will release to cinemas worldwide on the 27th of May 2022.  It will celebrate 40 years of the Panjabi classic and will serve as a tribute to the late legends of Indian cinema – Amrish Puri and Om Puri – who are no longer with us.

The official trailer of CHANN PARDESI: REMASTERED accrued over 2.5 million views on YouTube within a few days of going live, and the huge influx of excited reactions and comments reveals a mass swell of ground-level buzz building up for the re-release.  Whereas audiences in the 1980s were forced to watch exhibition film prints that were several generations removed from the master negative, cinemagoers in 2022 will be blown away when they see the best Panjabi film ever made now looking and sounding the best that it ever has.

CHANN PARDESI: REMASTERED exists because of the father-son team comprising of Dr. Chanan Singh Sidhu and multi award winning filmmaker Simran Sidhu.  Dr Sidhu’s involvement dates to the original Chann Pardesi when he connected first-time screenwriter Baldev Gill (Jee Aaya Nu, Mitti Wajaan Maardi, Chaar Sahibzaade) with first-time cinematographer Manmohan Singh (Maachis, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein).

CHANN PARDESI: REMASTERED will be first screened for VIP guests at the UK Asian Film Festival.  Each year, the festival showcases the best in South Asian cinema to audiences across the nation.  This year is no different, and UKAFF are proud to have CHANN PARDESI: REMASTERED premiering at the festival.  Fans seem ready to fall in love with this film all over again…
