British Parliament Commemorates Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Independence Day with Symbolic Event
London: British Parliament Commemorates Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Independence Day with Symbolic Event. In a demonstration of strong support for Bosnia and Herzegovina, a special event was held at the British Parliament in Westminster, London, to celebrate the country’s Independence Day.
The event was jointly organised by Alicia Kearns, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Bosnia and Herzegovina UK Network.
It brought together distinguished guests, including Members of the House of Lords, British MPs, community leaders, representatives of the Bosnian diaspora, and supporters of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The gathering served as a powerful testament to the deep ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United Kingdom. Baroness Arminka Helić, a Member of the House of Lords and a long-time advocate for Bosnia and Herzegovina, addressed the audience, highlighting the successful integration of the Bosnian community into British society. Dr. Anes Cerić, Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Director of the BH UK Network, emphasised the significance of the event, recognising the contributions of the British-Bosnian community.
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Osman Topčagić, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to joining the European Union and NATO. However, he also warned that “dark forces from the past” continue to obstruct necessary reforms, hindering progress and a better future for all citizens.
Marking Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Independence Day within the British Parliament holds great symbolic and political importance, particularly during times of global uncertainty. This event sent a strong message of solidarity and support from the United Kingdom to Bosnia and Herzegovina. As the gathering concluded, there was a strong sense of unity and determination among those in attendance.
