Prominent Kashmiri woman leader Rana Shama Nazir (British Kashmiri Women Council) was awarded by TeK UK

Prominent Kashmiri woman leader Rana Shama Nazir (British Kashmiri Women Council) was awarded by Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK in recognition of her long-standing commitment and invaluable services and contributions to the Kashmir freedom movement. The award was presented on February 5, Kashmir Solidarity Day, by the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan, and the President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, Raja Fahim Kayani, in the presence of many men and women during the important Kashmir Solidarity Conference at the Sparkbrook Community Centre in Birmingham.

She said, “ I am deeply humbled and honoured to receive this award. This recognition can only truly belong to the women and children of Kashmir, whose cries echoed through the silence of a watching world, remain forever etched in my heart, and have inspired me throughout my journey. It honours their patience, their long and painful struggle, and the suffering they have endured while holding high the flag of resistance with unwavering courage, dignity, and an unbroken spirit. At the same time, we must acknowledge the voices of those who feel that symbolic gestures, rallies, and conferences have not always eased the suffering of Kashmiris or empowered their leadership. True solidarity must be genuine, meaningful, and focused on empowering Kashmiris to shape their own future. The people of Pakistan genuinely stand with Kashmir, and their solidarity is deeply valued. True support, however, requires meaningful action, recognising Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as independent neighbours and empowering Kashmiris to determine their own future. Genuine solidarity must go beyond words and translate into actions that uphold justice, freedom, and self-determination. This award reflects not only my work but the collective efforts of all those who have tirelessly raised awareness and stood in solidarity over the years, reminding us that true change is achieved through unity, persistence, and an unwavering commitment to justice.”*_
