Birmingham: Honourable President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan: Dr Arif Alvi addresses the British Pakistani Initiative (BPI) 75th Pakistan Independence Dinner
The British Pakistan Initiative (BPI) held its annual Pakistan Independence dinner at Edgbaston Cricket ground, Birmingham on Saturday 3rd September. On the 75th year of Independence, the audience received a pre-recorded special video message by the Honourable President of Pakistan: Dr Arif Alvi.
The British Pakistan Initiative is an organisation set up with the aim of enhancing trade, culture, tourism and various other areas between the two great nations.
President Alvi congratulated BPI for setting up such initiatives that connects both the UK and Pakistan. He shared examples of existing projects where the UK and Pakistan are already co-operating. The Honourable President specifically appreciated the role of British Pakistanis for supporting Pakistan continuously. There was a special focus and appeal in relation to the current floods and national disaster in Pakistan caused by Climate Change.
President Alvi commented “We look forward to the British Pakistani diaspora investing in Pakistan and bringing their skills, Knowledge and experience and applying them in various fields in Pakistan which will be mutually beneficial to both countries”.
Raf Sabir, on behalf of the British Pakistani Initiative (BPI) thanked the Honourable President and stated, “We are hugely grateful to His Excellency, President of Pakistan for sending a personalised video message for our 75th Pakistan Independence Day event and updating the audience in light of the current floods situation in Pakistan”. In responding to the Presidents message, he added “so many people were inspired by President Alvi’s call for support and donations for the flood victims which requires an immense humanitarian response. BPI will be organising further charity dinners and events to support the affected people of Pakistan in these difficult times. Many are looking forward to investing in Pakistan in the future and further enhance co-operation in different fields”.
Over 500 guests attended the dinner, consisting of political, community leaders as well as business leaders from around the United Kingdom including the High Commissioner for Pakistan, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Lords, MPs and Mayors.
Guests were treated to entertainment by the Pakistani Superstar singer and composer, Abrar Ul Haq who performed some of his hit songs as well also updating the audience of the current flood’s impact in Pakistan.
