Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa meets parliamentarians and government officials in London
Mr. Pervez Khattak, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, met with parliamentarians and government officials in London on 27th October 2016 during his official visit to the UK. He was accompanied by Mr. Ghulam Dastgir, Chairman of the CPEC Executive Advisory Committee for the province, Mr. Muhammad Israr,Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and representative from the British High Commission in Islamabad, Ms. Susan.
Mr. Khattak had four meetings during the day. The first meeting was held with All Party Parliamentary Group on Pakistan at the British Parliament. It was attended by Mr. Rehman Chishti MP, Baroness Buscombe and Ms. Liz McInnes MP. He also met Mr. Andrew Stephenson MP at the Parliament. The next meeting took place at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), where Mr. Khattak was received by Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific Mr. Alok Sharma, who also offered his condolences on recent terroris attack on police training centre in Quetta. The
third meeting was held at the Department for International Development (dfid) where Mr. Khattak met Mr. Rory Stewart, Minister of State for International Development.
Later Mr Khattak visited the Metropolitan Police Command and Control Center where the delegation was briefed about the structure and function of the center along with a tour of the facility to physically see the systems that were in place for monitoring London.
During the meetings, Mr. Khattak briefed his interlocutors about the steps taken by the Government of Pakistan and the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in improving the security situation especially in tribal areas and the surrounding vicinity. He updated them on various laws and legislation aimed at efficient public service delivery. He also talked about provincial police reforms,devolution of power at the local bodies level, steps taken to improve gender equality in the province; tourism, one window operation for setting up new industry and investment opportunities. Matters relating to trade opportunities,manufacturing expansion and investment in mineral tourism sectors were of significant interest during the meetings.
Mr. Khattak also briefed about issues relating to the repatriation of Afghan refugees and steps taken by the government to improve border management between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
During the meetings, copies of police reform laws and local government regulations in the province along with material for the promotion of tourism were also shared with British Parliamentarians and Ministers.
