Mr President/Chairman,
Respected audience
It is certainly an honour for me, to address in the international arena to attend and discuss the serious stagnant issues of human right violations in Pakistan.
Mr president there are numerous human rights violations being exercised in Pakistan for the past 70 years. We are lucky enough that we are living in the information technology era as matters such as women and child abuse, mysterious disappearance of the people, honour killing, exploitation ofblasphemy law and incidences of Islamic extremism have come to light from time to time due to a thriving electronic and social media boom.
Honourable panel, I will limit my statement to the disgusting Islamic extremism practiced by the right wing mentality, hoping that other serious matters are not ignored. I would like to put it on record, that when Qaid-e- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah gave Pakistan its independence in 1947 with the ideology of liberal Pakistan because he wanted a peaceful life for the pupil and their children, irrespective of colour, caste and creed. At the time an Islamic right wing party known as Jamat-e- islami not only oppose the idea of liberal Pakistan, but they gave the founder of the nation the name of ‘Kafir-e- Azam’.From time to time after gaining support from some important figureheads like General Zia ul Haq they have been successful in spreading there right wing agendas. Besides jamat-e- islami, other right wing parties were strengthened in order to influence people with a right wing mentality.
I will quickly go through some points which will help improve my statement.
The history of Pakistan has been intentionally moulded by presenting the two – nation theory
The school syllabus has been tailored to influence the minds of our children
In colleges and universities, the student wings of jamat – e – islami started terrorist attacks on the liberals and progressive entities
The minorities are being tortured, harassed and are being pushed towards forced conversion
The blasphemy law is being exploited by the right wing forces
There have been numerous reports of kidnapping for ransom in order to generate finances for the right wing activities
A complete support of the state was given to establish the Taliban at the time when the nation was under the martial law lead by Zia ul Haq. As you all know Taliban has been responsible for mass killings within Pakistan and its neighbours
A Madrassa culture was introduced to brain wash young students
The Judiciary has been badly influenced in order to achieve verdicts in favour of the forces under discussion
Dear audience, due to the time constraint I will briefly mention a few events of terrorism by Islamic forces that left a mark on Pakistan’s history.
The sitting governor of Punjab at the time Mr. Salman Taseer was brutally shot down on 4 th January 2011 by his guard Mumtaz Qadree in Islamabad on the accusations of blasphemy, in 2013 his son Mr. Shahbaz Taseer was kidnapped while he was returning from his office in Lahore
and after receiving a hefty ransom amount, the Taliban returned him in 2016
Murtaza Bhutto, the brother of sitting prime minister at the time Benazir Bhutto was murdered in cold blood by the law enforcing agencies with the help of right wing extremists in Karachi on 20 th September 1996
Former Prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto was murdered in Rawalpindi while she was returning from a massive public gathering at Liaqat baagh Rawalpindi in December 2007. The tehreek –e – talibaan Pakistan took responsibility for the murder, but, recently the influenced
anti-terrorism courts have released the accused and declared a “not guilty” verdict. It’s interesting to know that the president of the time General Pervez Musharraf was also an accused party and has been declared an absconder by the court in this matter.
The federal minister of minority affairs Mr. Shebaz Bhatti was murdered in Islamabad on 2 nd march 2011 by the activists of Sipa sahaba Pakistan
A bill was passed in the Sindh assembly to protect the hindu minorities in the matter of forced faith conversions. Jamat –e – islami used its influence over the president of Pakistan asif ali zardari who withdrew the bill from the governor’s office before it be implemented.
On 13 th April 2017 a student at Peshawar university and a well-known humanitarian Mr. Mashal Khan was lynched by a mob and killed. On false accusations of blasphemy
Thousands of innocent lives were lost as a result of suicide blasts in Pakistan and all these incidents were proudly and shamelessly claimed by tehreek e Taliban.
At the end I would like to thank the management of the organisation who gave me an opportunity to speak on this highly important matter.Thank you for your time ”Masroor Sabzwari”
