Kashmiri allies turn tide against India on social media

London: The war of narratives and perception appears to be turning in favour of people of Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIoJK) as allies and friends of Kashmiri people are taking to social media to give voice to voiceless people of the occupied territory.

Social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook have shown disregard for people from IIoJK to expose India’s war crimes in Kashmir by blocking their accounts and removing their content which bring to fore the grave human rights violations committed by India in IIoJK.

However, things seem to be changing.

A recent killing of a woman by Indian army after one of its convoy wantons in Bandipora triggered an intense social media campaign where people holding high public offices in Europe expressed concern and sought international intervention to end violence in IIoJK.

One million Indian forces are occupying IIoJK.

“My sincere condolences to this woman’s family. The international community must redouble our efforts to support an end to this violence & facilitate the development of a sustainable peace with Kashmiris at the heart of this process,” said Debbie Abrahams, a member parliament in the UK as she responded to a tweet from Fahim Kayani who had posted picture of Kashmiri woman hit and ramped over by the Indian army wanton.

“Very sad news today in Indian-occupied Kashmir… elderly woman was mowed down by (Indian) army vehicle it shows that what kind of value Kashmiri have. For Indian army, Kashmir is a battlefield nothing else and world knowing this all and they’re silence it’s sad and disgusting,” Kayani, president of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, had said.

It was on July 14 this year that an elderly woman was killed after being run over by an Indian army truck in Nadihal village of northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The hit and kill by Indian occupying army had triggered anti-India demonstrations in the region.

Jess Phillips, Abrahams colleague in the British parliament, called the killing as “absolutely harrowing.”

“Human rights abuses cannot be ignored and as Debbie says there must be a concerted effort to end the violence and give voice to the people living in the region,” she said.

It must be noted that India has been using its influence over the social media platforms to block and deny space to those voices which expose New Delhi’s war crimes in IIoJK. However, with people like British lawmakers including Abrahams and Phillips, who enjoy huge following, is helping break the logjam and bring to fore the ground situation in the Indian-occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir State.

Responding to Phillips, US-based Danielle Khan lauded the British lawmaker for raising voice over human rights abuses in IIoJK.

“Thank you @jessphillips (Jess Phillips) for raising awareness about the ongoing human rights abuses in #Kashmir Folded hands We need more voices like yours to address this issue firmly,” Khan tweeted.

British lawmakers Naz Shah , Andrew Gwynne and Imran Hussain besides global human rights defenders including CJ Werleman, Turgay Evren and Sheni Hamid  have become faces of Kashmiri voices seeking right to self-determination for the people of IIoJK under the United Nations
