Survey launched ahead of Perry Barr regeneration
People who live, work or travel in and around Perry Barr are being urged by Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) and Birmingham City Council (BCC) to take part in a travel survey ahead of £500 million investment in the area.
This regeneration programme will initially deliver 1,400 new homes, public transport improvements, new community facilities and public spaces for residents to enjoy.
This is part of a new joined up way of working between TfWM, part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), and local authorities to reduce congestion and improve journey reliability while major investment takes place across the region.
The survey data will be used by transport bosses to help people plan and make changes to their journeys whilst construction work takes place. Responses will be used to identify the most popular times and ways people travel around Perry Barr to help develop journey planning solutions and alternative options for travel while the work is carried out.
Solutions which could be explored by TfWM and BCC include:
- Advising when and how to travel to avoid the busiest times
- Supporting people to car share
- Exploring ticket offers or discounts
- Identifying the busiest routes and most popular journeys and providing alternatives
- Working with local businesses to provide advice and support with car share schemes, cycling benefits, corporate ticketing and agile working schemes
Anne Shaw, director of network resilience, TfWM said: “If you travel through the West Midlands you may notice we are running several similar surveys, this is because we really want to understand how people travel and when and what routes they take. We know construction projects can be disruptive so understanding your journeys will help us to put plans in place.”
Phil Edwards, assistant director for transport & connectivity at Birmingham City Council said: “During the regeneration works there will inevitably be some disruption to people’s journeys, but we will be working hard to minimise this as much as possible.
“The travel survey will find out more about people’s current journeys and other travel options they might consider, as well as how they want to receive updates.
“This will help us to plan ahead and coordinate activity across the various schemes, so we can keep people moving during these works.”
