Remembrance Sunday in Birmingham
Birmingham will fall silent on Sunday, as the city remembers the fallen at its annual Remembrance Day parade and service.
A service marking the Day of National Remembrance will take place on Colmore Row, opposite St Philip’s Cathedral, on 13 November 2022, attended by military veterans and representatives of the region’s armed forces.
The parade will include ex-service personnel, regular, reserve and cadet units from the Armed Forces who, with representatives of other local uniformed organisations, will march on from Temple Row at 10.30am.
At 10:45am the Vice Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands Professor Helen Higson OBE, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Cllr Maureen Cornish, and the Bishop of Aston the Rt Rev Anne Hollinghurst will walk from the Council House to Colmore Row, with senior representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force. The service will begin about 10:55am.
A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am, after which wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph by representatives from Armed Forces, veterans organisations, faith leaders and community groups. The event will end with a march past at approximately 11:40am.
The Lord Mayor said: “As we prepare to honour our promise never to forget all those who sacrificed so much, I would encourage Birmingham’s citizens to join us in observing the act of remembrance at 11am this Sunday.
“It is important that we take time remember all men and women who died while serving their country, at war and in peacetime, who gave their todays for our tomorrows.”
