The uncertainty over Kashmir will destroy any possibility of bringing peace to the region: Fahim Kayani

Brooklyn, New York. July 5, 2025: An impressive get-together was held in Brooklyn, New York to warmly welcome, Fahim Kayani, President, Tehreeke Kashmir, United Kingdom.

Fahim Kayani in his passionate speech said that the unfulfillment of United Nations resolution is the root cause of tensions between India and Pakistan and until that happens cosmetic changes or hackneyed resolutions will not yield wholesome results. Let the world powers be aware, Fahim Kayani added that issue of Kashmir is serious than other countries where the will of the majority is being denied under the garb of fallacious democracy. With continued struggle and support from international community in these countries the people will ultimately realize their dream and right of majority will ultimately prevail.

Fahim Kayani underscored that Kashmir is the only region which shares its borders with three nuclear powers of the world – India, Pakistan & China. The potential of nuclear war has always been there between India and Pakistan as the world witnessed the catastrophic consequences following the Pahalgam massacre. The uncertainty over Kashmir will lead not only India and Pakistan to disaster but it will also destroy any possibility of bringing peace and stability to the region of South Asia.

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman, World Forum for Peace & Justice underscored that despite a significant shift in global politics since the beginning of the 21st century, the Kashmir issue remains a major impediment to global peace and security, and its resolution must be a priority for the international community. Fai added that two principles which had to be the guiding force of a resolution of the Kashmir dispute: firstly, it was the inherent right of the inhabitants of the state of Jammu and Kashmir to decide their future; secondly it is almost impossible to ascertain the wishes and will of the people of the state except in an atmosphere that is free from coercion, intimidation and external compulsion.[

Fai highlighted that in the context of preventive diplomacy to find a peaceful solution of Kashmir problem, President Donald J. Trump expressed his readiness to extend every possible help to facilitate a search for a lasting solution to the Kashmir problem. As was expected, India virtually rejected this offer. We hope that President Trump will not take the “NO” of Narendra Modi as an answer.

Raja Mukhtar, Spokesperson, JKLF, North America said as per specific UN resolutions on Kashmir it does not need to be defined as to what is the solution of the Kashmir issue. The referendum should give the people of Kashmir all choices: whether to be the part of India or Pakistan or to remain independent. Raja Mukhar added that unity is essential among Kashmiri diaspora, particularly when tensions are very high between India and Pakistan.

Sardar Taj Khan, Senior Vice Chairman, Kashmir Mission, USA said that despite the persistent and pernicious tyranny of Indian army, the people of Kashmir never have, nor ever will give up their right to self-determination. It is based on the internationally recognized, and principled stand the Kashmiri diaspora and its allies worldwide stand in solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir.

Raja Razzaq, senior leader of Muslim League (N), North America said that Kashmir is one of the oldest unresolved conflicts on the agenda of the UN to which the Security Council devoted scores of meetings and on which it adopted more than a dozen substantive resolutions. These resolutions need to be adopted.

Advocate Sardar Imtiaz Khan Garalvi said that we stand in support of the unyielding struggle of our Kashmiri brethren to resist occupation and achieve their right to self-determination. We stand with them in their struggle to stop the Indian government from dehumanizing them and completing their settler-colonial project to remove them culturally, politically, and ethnically from the face of the earth.

Shahid Comrade, Secretary General, Pakistan-USA Freedom Forum, said that we should rule out one thing and that is doing nothing.  Because time is not on the side of Kashmiris.  Time will never heal this problem.  Time has made the things worst in Kashmir.  Let me also say, Comrade Shahid added that some of the things may seem to us as if we are doing something but in practical reality it may lead us nowhere.  One of those things is the concept to convert the existing cease-fire line into a permanent international boundary.  This is the ideal non-existent solution.

Choudhary Iftikhar, Chief Organizer, JKLF said that given the loss of civilian population on both sides of the Ceasefire Line, the United Nations must expand the mandate of ‘UN Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan’ (UNMOGIP) from observing ceasefire into deploying a peacekeeping force with the mandate to prevent any military offensive and protect lives on both sides of CFL. This initiative can also help the separated families travel using a UN issued passports.

Saghir Khan, Chairman, Kashmir American Alliance highlighted the need of getting involved at the grass root level in American political system, like in Great Britian. It is our responsibility; Saghir Khan added to motivate and train our younger generation so as to participate in all local election at the county level.

Fouzia Chugtai said that now is no time for complacency or temporizing. The nuclear clock is moving forward, not backward. And the chilling suffering and misery of the Kashmiri people continues every day a peaceful resolution is deferred.

Mushtaq Mughal, Vice President, PPP, USA said that Indian government has unleashed their nefarious plan to alter the demographic status of Jammu & Kashmir so that down the road if plebiscite is held the outcome is to their liking.

Major Arif Naveed underscored that encouragement to India and Pakistan through numerous resolutions have been taking place for the last 78 years. Perhaps it is time that the authority entrusted to the United Nations be taken a little more seriously.

Manzoor Hussain of Dunya TV said that the truth is that the people of Kashmir themselves have always been hostile to the presence of India’s troops on their soil and have resisted to such oppression, and over hundred thousand Kashmiris have died within the past 35 years alone. Long standing agreements at the United Nations in place have in fact afforded the Kashmiri people the right to determine their own destiny.

Others who spoke included: Zahid Shahbaz; Raja Imtiaz; Raja Zafar Iqbal; Sheikh Amjad; Sardar Habib; Raja Ahmed; Raja Baidar Bakhat; Dr. Shahid Amjad; Irfan Syed; Sheikh Amjad and others.

At the end a resolution was adopted that United nations must intervene immediately so that Government of India releases all political prisoner, including Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Masarat Aalm Bhat, Aasia Andrabi, Khurram Parvez and others.

Dr. Fai is also the Secretary General, World Kashmir Awareness Forum.
