The 3rd annual World music conference, organised by the British Carnatic Choir
Birmingham: The 3rd Annual world Music Conference, organised by the British Carnatic Choir was held on Friday 8th November at Aston University. The conference theme was ‘Music, Mental Health and Well Being.’ The one day conference attracted over 100 school children who took part in workshops and performances of world music from many countries. The schedule of the day also included speakers and experts from NHS Mental Health Trust Foundation, music professionals, charities, young members and music therapists who shared their perspectives about the positive impact of music on mental health. There were two panel discussions on the day and at the conference valedictory by young pupils sharing their musical journey. Special performances were given by Kalillo African drumming, Hafsah Nazeeba, Romanian Traditional song, south Indian folk drumming, Chinese traditional and folk music, south Indian classical percussion, Sufi music by Khadija Dilnawaz, Pakistani classical and folk music, Handpan, Punjabi dhol drumming and other performances.Report by S M Irfan Tahir Photojournalist / Member National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Great Britain.
