Telford: The 75th anniversary celebration of the NHS by the APPSUK at The Excellency Midlands in Telford was a momentous occasion. APPSUK, the oldest and largest organisation of Pakistani doctors in the UK, gathered to honor this milestone and recognise the valuable contributions of doctors from various nationalities.
A delightful barbecue event was arranged for the distinguished guests, setting the stage for an evening of camaraderie and celebration. The festivities commenced with a symbolic gesture as officials from APPSUK, joined by other esteemed guests, released NHS-themed balloons into the sky. Dr Younas Perwaz initiated the program with a recitation of the Holy Quran.
The national anthems of Pakistan and Great Britain resonated in the air, symbolising the diverse backgrounds and shared purpose of those present. Dr. Usman Khan, the President of APPSUK, welcomed the guests and provided a concise overview of the evening’s agenda. He took a moment to express gratitude and pay tribute to the dedicated individuals working in the public health sector.
In a touching tribute, a minute of silence was observed to honor the lives lost in Palestine, reminding everyone of the importance of solidarity in healthcare and beyond. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Director of APPSUK Foundation, presented a comprehensive briefing on the foundation’s services and highlighted the remarkable individuals associated with their welfare initiatives.
The event also featured a captivating performance by an Egyptian dancer, which garnered enthusiastic applause from the audience. Recognising excellence in the field of public health, awards were presented to distinguished experts who have made remarkable contributions to the NHS. These luminaries included Prof. Sir Munir Pirmuhammad, Dr. Kamran Abbasi, Prof. Amjad Shad, and Prof. Parveen Ali, whose dedication and service were truly commendable.
The celebration extended its warmth to the younger generation, as young children were acknowledged for their artistic talents with various gifts and certificates of appreciation for their NHS-themed drawings. The NHS 75th birthday was marked with a joyful moment as a specially crafted cake was cut, symbolising three-quarters of a century of healthcare excellence and dedication. The evening was brought to life by the vibrant performances of Pakistani artists and singers, who entertained the participants with their remarkable talents, underscoring the rich cultural tapestry of the event.
