Bosnia and Herzegovina Statehood Day Celebration in Birmingham
Birmingham: Bosnia & Herzegovina UK Network is organising the celebration of Bosnia’s Statehood Day that will take place at Bosnia House, 639-641 Stratford Road, B11 4AE on 21st November 2024, 6 pm-8 pm.
Among the guests at the event will be present Ambassador Bosne i Hercegovine Osman Topčagić, Tahir Ali MP, Lord Mayor of Birmingham Ken Wood.
Statehood Day in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a deeply symbolic celebration that honours the country’s reassertion of its statehood during a crucial historical moment. It represents the moment when Bosnia and Herzegovina was recognised as a unified and indivisible state, with equality for all its people.
The celebration will include speeches by civic leaders, a musical performance by Elvir Solak (classical guitarist) and Lejla Jusić (opera singer from Sarajevo National Theatre) and traditional dance by our folk dance group “Fahira Hasedžić”. Traditional Bosnian food will be served from 6.30 pm.
Bosnia UK Network strives to transform its new building into a refugee hub, a new centre for refugees, and a place where multifaceted support and assistance will be provided to those who need it. As a Bosnian community, we feel empowered, inspired and responsible to help other communities in Birmingham.
Cllr Nicky Brennan, Cabinet Member of Social Justice, Community Safety and Communities, BCC, said: “We understand the invaluable role Bosnia House plays in the city. It stands as a symbol of unity, resilience, and cultural enrichment. Located in the heart of Sparkhill, Bosnia House is more than just a community centre; it is a sanctuary where the Bosnian community and other recently arrived communities can come together to preserve their heritage, share their stories, and support one another.
I am immensely proud to have Bosnia House in my ward. It enriches our diverse community and is a constant reminder of the strength that comes from unity. Bosnia House offers a place for healing and understanding, promoting a message of peace and reconciliation that is crucial in today’s world.”
