Kashmir Conference at Birmingham Council House Demands Global Action Against Indian Occupation

Birmingham – 31 July 2025: A high-profile Kashmir Conference was held at Birmingham City Council Victoria Square on Thursday, where speakers from political, legal, and community sectors called for urgent international intervention against India’s actions in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The event, hosted by Chaudhry Akram-ul-Haq, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir Birmingham Branch, and chaired by Raja Fahim Kayani, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK and All Parties Kashmir Alliance UK, drew a significant turnout from the Kashmiri and Pakistani diaspora, civil society, youth groups, and women activists.

Prominent speakers included:

• Nabeela Ayub Khan Adv, Member of AJK Legislative Assembly & Advisor to the Prime Minister of AJK

• Sardar Usman Ali Khan, Chairman Youth Wing, Muslim Conference

• Advocate Nadeem Kayani, Former President, Dadyal Bar Association

• Barrister Ayoub Khan, Member of the British Parliament

• Councillor Waseem Zaffar, Birmingham City Council

• Raja Javed Iqbal, Former AJK MLA

• Munir Hussain Sethi, Social Leader

• Chaudhry Habibullah, Community Activist

In their speeches, participants condemned the Indian government’s abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on 5 August 2019, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and a direct attack on the identity, rights, and autonomy of the Kashmiri people. Speakers noted that this move, which revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, has resulted in heightened military control, restrictions on civil liberties, and efforts to change the region’s demographic structure.

The conference heard calls for the United Nations, UK Government, and international community to take concrete steps against what speakers described as India’s war crimes under the Fourth Geneva Convention. Participants criticised the continued silence of world powers and demanded consistent action on human rights regardless of geopolitical interests.

Speakers also rallied support for the upcoming Kashmir March in London on 5 August 2025, urging the community to participate in large numbers. They stated that the march would be a historic demonstration of unity and defiance in the face of occupation and injustice.

Addressing the audience, Raja Fahim Kayani said:

“This march will send a clear message that Kashmiris are united in their struggle for freedom. It is not just a protest — it is a show of loyalty to the oppressed and a call to conscience for the world.”

The conference concluded with the adoption of a unanimous resolution, calling on:

• The United Nations and UK Government to hold India accountable for human rights violations

• The restoration of Kashmir’s special status

• Implementation of UN resolutions guaranteeing Kashmiris their right to self-determination

Organisers described the event as a clear and unified voice from the British Kashmiri community and a reaffirmation of their commitment to justice, dignity, and international law.
