KIIR chief thanks Pak, Turkey, OIC for raising the Kashmir issue at Geneva

Islamabad:  Chairman Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) Mr. Altaf Hussain Wani has expressed his gratitude to Pakistan, Turkey and the OIC for their continued support to Kashmiris’ legitimate cause and for raising the issue vociferously at the 46th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Terming it as a welcome development, the KIIR chief while referring to fast-growing realization about the situation in Kashmir at global level said, “We deeply appreciate the role of our brotherly countries who besides lending all-out support to our struggle have significantly contributed in raising global awareness on Kashmir”.

“I would like to express my gratitude Dr. Shireen Mazari, Minister for Human Rights, Pakistan, Turkish representative, and OIC Secretary-General Dr. Yousef Al Othaimeen for their strong-worded statements on Kashmir cause and calling for immediate end to human rights violations in the Indian occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir”, Wani said.

Referring to the Indian External Affairs Minister’s statement the KIIR chief said that the Indian Minister in his statement unabashedly talked about terrorism and India’s abiding commitment to promotion and protection of human rights but he didn’t utter a single word about the state-terrorism in Kashmir and gross human rights violations being committed by the Indian forces. Terming Indian foreign minister’s statement as a pack of lies Wani said that the abysmal situation in the occupied territory lays bare India’s aggression and violence unleashed against the people of occupied Kashmir.

The KIIR chief said that it was high time that the UN should consider the establishment of an independent Commission of Inquiry as recommended by the OHCHR report to hold an independent investigation into human rights violations in Jammu & Kashmir. Urging the world community to play its due role in holding India accountable for its crimes committed by its troops in the IoK, he said, “Appeasement or inaction on the part of the world community would only embolden the abuser”.
