NHS Diabetes awareness event Organised Successfully at the Sikh Family Centre Coventry | WNTV
Coventry: NHS diabetes awareness event was held successfully at the Sikh Family centre Coventry in partnership with Coventry Mercia lions and the council of Sikh Gurdwaras in Coventry.
The Coventry Mercia lions raised awareness of risk factors for Diabetes, so that steps can be taken in looking after health, hence preventing and delaying the onset of the condition and it’s serious complications. President of Coventry Mercia lions Manjeet Rai alongside Uma Sharma hosted the event.
Lord Mayor of Coventry Cllr Maton, Danielle Oum Chair of Coventry and Warwickshire integrated care system, Consultant physician diabetes Endocrine, Professor Diabetes and Clinical skills, Clinical Director for Diabetes, GP lead for Coventry other professionals and experts were present at the event.
The keynote speakers expressed their views and stated that 4.7 million people in the UK have diabetes. The number of people effected by diabetes is expected to reach 5.5 million by 2030. Almost 1 million people are living with type 2 diabetes, don’t know they have it, because they haven’t been diagnosed. Many cases of type 2 could be prevented or delayed by healthy eating, being more active, and losing weight if overweight. The condition can go undetected for many years, and by the time diagnosed 1 in 3 people already have complications with their eyes, feet. kidneys, or nerves.
