World Press freedom day and human rights are not for IOJK
London: Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK had a meeting to honour the journalists worldwide in regards to World’s Press Freedom Day few days ago. It was highlighted in the meeting that South Asia specially India & Kashmir don’t see any freedom of speech under Human Rights Article 10 which states freedom of expression on social media & the Internet. The meeting was updated with information that India remains the 142 among the most dangerous 180 countries for Journalists in the 2021 index of Press Freedom published by Reporters Without Boarders.
The President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK Raja Fahim Kayani stated,”Every day we hear same news either is a journalist is booked or detained for speaking the truth so the world gets to see Kashmir needs help & India needs attention because when anyone attempts to question the recent BJP government they silence them by either calling they anti national or anti state so the journalists have no choice to stay silent or get booked or detained. Most of the illegal laws are made & practiced on the minorities specially Muslims. In regards to the day I would like to request the world to standby the journalists & ask India to released all the 67 journalists detained or arrested last year specially Aasif Sultan who is detained since 2018. The Covid situation is worsen in India so all Kashmiri political prisoners should be released.”
The Information Secretary of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK Rehana Ali who also has a media background stated,” Journalism is a noble profession where journalists like our armed forces risk their lives to save societies by revealing the truth for a better & healthy society. World Press Freedom Day reminds us of the importance to live in a civilised society or the world would become a jungle where might is right. She even said Journalists are booked or detained (like Kashmiri leaders & Kashmiris for using social media to raise their voices against opression) under Section 13 of PSA1978 or UAPA2002 & getting abused in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir under #AFSPA1990’s Section 7 given Impunity to abuse. Kashmiri Journalist Aasif Sultan is a live example who has been booked under UAPA2002 for not revealing his sources for a news story.”
The Director of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK Information Cell Yahya Akhter stated,” The world should get united to save journalists for the abuse they’re suffering in the hands of oppressers & occupiers from decades. They should be set free from Indian prisons in the given Covid situation worsening in India.”
