A public meeting has been called to support the bin workers currently on strike in Birmingham

Birmingham: Members of Unite have been on strike since 11 March as part of a dispute over pay, resulting in thousands of tonnes of rubbish being piled up across the city, with politicians warning of a public health emergency.
Responding to the industrial action, city bin worker Steeven Biset will be leading a panel of speakers calling for greater support for those on strike, at a public meeting in Birmingham on Monday 28 April at 6pm.
The public meeting will be held at the BRIG café in Digbeth and is being supported by over 10 organisations, including various trade unions.
Among those confirmed to speak are Rhiannon Lockley from the University and College Union (UCU), Lewis Nielsen from We Demand Change, and Paula Dunne from Strike Map.
Rob Horsfield, who will also be speaking on behalf of the People’s Assembly Birmingham, said:
“Despite everything thrown at them the bin workers have been on strike since the beginning of this year.
“People deserve to hear from them, other trade unionists, and activists why they are still out fighting for a fair deal from the council.
“An injury to one is an injury to all, and if the proposed cuts go through every worker employed by Birmingham city council will be looking over their shoulder, nervous about their terms and conditions and pay.”
The public meeting takes place at the BRIG café @ The Warehouse, 54-57 Allison Street, Digbeth, Birmingham B5 5TH on Monday 28 April at 6.30pm.
